Drawing time...

DRAWING TIME!!!

For a couple of weeks now I have been drawing floral's these are some on my favorite ones:

To create some off the backgrounds I have used a mixture of water, salt and brusho, I have also drawn from my own photographs as well as blind, timed and different media drawings.
Next time I'm moving into the print rooms.

Exhibition Presentation

A Day at University

Today at University, Me and Lauren (l-e-thomas.blogspot.com) had to create and present a exhibition presentation. Mine part of the PowerPoint was about the Baltic. I visited the Baltic last Wednesday, there were 4 artist that had work on show, these are Thomas Bayrle, Salla Tykka, Shara Baker and Ryder Architechure.

Thomas Bayrle who is a German Artist, hes exhibition was spaced  over two floors and is described as a forerunner of pop and media art. Bayrle started creating work based on repeating the same pattern in the same sequence. They are created based on a unique visual language through collage, Painting, Sculpture, film and books. At the exhibition his collection are about Kinetic Machines, hes also presents his work in a chronological way. On the second Level of his work his collection was about screen printing and was based on erotic images starting from his early work which protested for the fight of sexual freedom. I really didn't understand his work but enjoyed looking at the screen print work as he used different medias print on.

Sarah Baker and Ryde Architecture were a self - specific collaboration for the Baltic. This sculpture was created out of a combination of paintings, welding, and jewellery making techniques. I didn't fully enjoy this one as I'm not really a fan of abstract sculpture, i did like the fact they had used different medias to create the large piece.

Finnish artist Salla Tykkӓ, is known for photography and creating narrative videos. This exhibition was 3 Videos. One video was called Victoria, this was a nine minute video about a life cycle of a flower over a period of time, this symbolised colonial power and domination in the 19th century. The second Video was about a show horse which was called Airs above the Ground this showed how show horses are trained and how they are born with really dark hair but as they grow there hair develops and turns completely white. The third video, Giant, was about a gymnastic who went to a boarding school in France, it showed that you need discipline and strength to continue in gymnastics but at the end it is beautiful. It also showed how gymnastics culture and how they train is so important.

FMP - Final Major Project - Reflections

It has all begun!

My Final Major Project has started, I have focused on natural formations of nature, such as Florals and Crystals. These theme will be combined with a decorative aspect of reflection and symmetry.

This is my Concept Board:

Theses elements will create interesting and detailed starting point and will give me ample amount of experimentation through my drawing and development. I intend on drawing detailed analytically studies which will be corporate with abstract drawings and photograph elements.

These are my 4 collection colour boards:

I have four colour palettes each, colour palette per collection, these will include 8 different based colours. As I have picked colours which aren’t solid I can explore more in depth in terms of balance, weight and variety options when I apply my colours to my designs in the development stage. To find theses colour I have used the design seed blog as I find them really interesting with the different shades.

My market research inspiration for my FMP have been designers such as Alexander McQueen, Weston and Athena Procpiou, for there new original exciting designs.

Athena Procopiou Fall/Winter 2013 Fairytales collection includes florals, the colours which provide the background that is needed to make the fairytale concept to come through, these fashion scarves are influential, luxurious but have a practical feel to them.

Here are some examples:

Starry Dusk Luxury Scarf - £165

The Hypnotic Peonies - £96

Trends are also important I have looked at relative trends such as, Frosted florals: Print Inspiration and Cosmic Folk: A/W 14/15 women’s print & graphics, both these trends relate to my concept. By looking at different trends and designers will help me create more depth and innovative final collections.

Minor project done!

I have finally finished my minor project. This project has been a tuff one! My project was about travel and 'The attraction of the worlds based on tourism.' My aim was to create a collection of 8 scarves!
Theses are my colour boards and my market board:

My drawings were based on landmarks that I had visited in the past for example: the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower. I wanted my drawing to become very quick and experimental, but add a digital side to it.

My final collection:

These ones are 90cm x 90cm:

The following 4 are all 70cm x 180cm.

My favorite one is the last one; this one is made from 100% cotton. It was a basic line drawing of a London telephone box, with a very pale background. As I had steamed and washed the fabric, all of the design had washed out and turned it to a  horrible pink.
To make this better I decide to tie dye the fabric as it was a mess to begin with. So I soaked the fabric in cold water and from the middle I twisted in to a ball:

This shows the ball with the colours raspberry and blackcurrant I had decided to do the same colour the opposite section as this would turn out quite different. Then I tured it over to do the same on the other side but where it is blank on this side, I have decided to fill those sections in. This what what it looked like:

When I washed and dried it, it looked amazing and I loved the turn out! I also like the pattern that it left on my backing cloth!

This gave me sure inspiration for my Major Project!

On hand it I presented my bay very professional :

Next time I will be posting about my disseration hand in :/
Thanks becca :) x
